I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Almogrote Sunset Sur on Avenida J.M. Galván Bello, I wasn’t expecting much. The street itself is pretty typical for this part of San Miguel de Abona, sort of tucked away from the main tourist chaos but still accessible enough that you’re not completely isolated. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t scream for attention from the sidewalk.

The thing about this hotel is that it actually delivers on what its name promises – those sunset views are genuinely spectacular, especially if you manage to snag one of the west-facing rooms. I mean, Tenerife’s got no shortage of places claiming amazing sunsets, but from here you get this unobstructed view over the coastline that honestly made me stop whatever I was doing every evening around 7:30. The staff (who seem to have been there forever and actually know the area) mentioned that the hotel’s positioned just right to catch the light as it hits the Atlantic, and they weren’t kidding.

What really won me over though was how the place feels lived-in rather than sterile. The lobby has this relaxed vibe where locals sometimes pop in for coffee – always a good sign in my book. Parking’s straightforward, which is more than I can say for some places around here, and check-in was refreshingly quick. The rooms themselves are well-maintained without being overly fancy; clean lines, decent air conditioning (crucial during summer months), and bathrooms that don’t make you feel like you’re camping. I stayed in late September and the place was busy but not overwhelmed – seems like they’ve figured out that sweet spot of being popular without being chaotic.

The location’s actually pretty smart if you think about it. You’re about ten minutes from the airport, which sounds terrible but honestly isn’t – the flight path doesn’t really affect this area, and being close means you can maximize your time instead of dealing with long transfers. Plus, San Miguel de Abona itself is one of those towns that feels authentically Canarian rather than tourist-themed. There’s a proper local market on Thursdays, and the restaurants along the main strip serve food that locals actually eat, not just tourist versions of it. The hotel staff will point you toward the good spots if you ask – they recommended this tiny family place about five minutes walk away that served the best papas arrugadas I had on the entire island.

Look, it’s not going to revolutionize your life or anything, but Almogrote Sunset Sur does what a good hotel should do: it gets out of your way while giving you exactly what you need. Clean, comfortable, well-located, and run by people who seem to care about getting the details right. That 9.4 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there – it’s the kind of place that exceeds expectations without making a big deal about it.

  Fantastic apartments, spacious and clean, kitchen has everything including coffee machine, kettle, juice maker, oven, large fridge and big patio.
  We travelled with a toddler so appreciated high chair and kids toys. Definitely recommend.

  The property was lovely, large and very clean. It was very comfortable. It had everything you needed and more. There was a full cooker, washing machine, dishwasher and a brilliant barbecue which we used a lot.The bathroom had a lovely bath and a great shower over the bath. There was plenty of towels and even pool towels for you yo use. The terrace was amazing getting the sun for most of the day. The location was great very close to bars, restaurants and supermarkets. We also found it was very safe as you had to have a key to enter any part of the complex. The swimming pool area was beautiful and the pool was massive

  Rendkívül jól felszerelt, minden megtalálható benne. Nagyon tiszta a lakás a lépcsőház, illetve az udvar is. A part a közelben elég sziklás és nagyon hullámzott az óceán, ezért örültünk neki, hogy az épületekhez az udvaron medence és napágyak tartoznak, amit egy szépen gondozott kert vesz körül. A buszmegálló az épület előtt található, így ha valaki nem bérel autót akkor is jól tud közlekedni. A közelben található a reptér és sűrűn mennek a repülők, de a lakásban ebből nem hallatszik semmi, jól lehet pihenni. Közvetlen buszjárattal 15-20 perc alatt megközelíthető a szállás a reptérről. A közelben vannak élelmiszerboltok és éttermek, illetve közel van az óceánparti sétány.
