You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Alma del Mar when I first pulled up to Calle Holanda – honestly, Tabaiba isn’t exactly where most tourists end up, and that’s actually part of its charm. This place sits right in what feels like a real Spanish neighborhood, where you’ll hear more locals chatting in the morning than tour groups planning their day.

The hotel itself has that solid four-star feel without trying too hard to impress you. I mean, it’s not going to blow you away with fancy lobby art or whatever, but everything just… works. The rooms are genuinely comfortable (not that “Instagram comfortable” nonsense), and I actually slept well, which is saying something because I’m usually tossing and turning in new places. What really got me was stepping out onto the balcony in the morning – you get this glimpse of the ocean between the buildings, and there’s something about that view that makes you feel like you’ve found a little secret. The staff genuinely knows the area too, which is refreshing. When I asked about getting to the coast, they didn’t just point me toward the typical tourist beaches but mentioned this little stretch near El Puertito where the locals actually go.

Here’s the thing about staying in Tabaiba – you’re about a fifteen-minute drive from all the main Santa Cruz action, but you’re also tucked away from the cruise ship crowds and the endless souvenir shops. I could walk to a proper Spanish café in the morning (there’s this place around the corner where the cortado is honestly better than anything I had in the hotel zones), and parking was never a headache like it is closer to the port. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night, which I loved, though if you’re looking for that resort-style entertainment every evening, you might feel a bit isolated. The hotel does have a decent restaurant, and the breakfast spread was better than I expected – real fruit, not just the standard hotel fruit salad, and they actually know how to make eggs that aren’t rubber. The whole place has this lived-in quality that I’ve noticed in the better Spanish hotels, where it feels like people actually care about the details instead of just checking boxes on some corporate checklist. Would I stay here again? Definitely – especially if I wanted to explore Tenerife like someone who actually lives there instead of just passing through.

  What could be improved: The mechanism of the sun blind on the balcony was broken and I was told that I had to wait for parts from Spain. Very surprising for a mechanism that seems standard. Even last year, i was there, it was difficult to raise the blind. The bedroom window was damaged and could not be closed. There is a maintenance problem.

  What could be improved: Arrivant un dimanche, des produits alimentaires basiques seraient un plus : bouteille d'eau, sel, sucre et huile d'olive.
  Non adapté à des personnes n'appréciant pas les montées et les escaliers.

  Emplacement offre une belle vue, mais rien de spécial à faire à Tabaiba. Endroit calme et reposant, très bien situé pour visiter Santa Cruz Ou San Cristobal de Laguna, qui sont des grandes villes plus bruyantes.
  
  What could be improved: Aucun produit de base pour cuisiner: sel, poivre, huile, …. Aucune capsule de café. C'est la première fois depuis que je voyage en airbnb ou booking que je tombe sur un appartement vide de tous ces éléments. Les voyageurs comme ma famille et moi qui aimons changer de lieu pendant nos voyages, nous ne pouvons pas acheter par exemple des capsules de café adaptées aux différentes cafetières à chaque fois que nous changeons d'appartement. Donc au prix de la location, la moindre des choses serait de fournir les capsules pour la durée du séjour et des produits de base pour la cuisine. Que les propriétaires se rassurent, on ne voyage pas à l'étranger pour venir voler du sel, du poivre et du café!
