The moment I stepped into this apartment on Calle Capellania, I actually felt like I was staying at someone’s well-loved family home rather than some sterile rental. The owner has this knack for making the space feel genuinely cozy – and I mean that in the best way possible, not in that “small and cramped” way that sometimes gets disguised as cozy.

San Miguel de Abona is honestly one of those spots that most tourists zip right past on their way to the southern beaches, but staying here gave me this insider’s perspective on authentic Canarian life. The neighborhood has this lived-in quality where you’ll hear kids playing in the streets during the late afternoon and catch the scent of someone’s grandmother making potaje from an open window. It’s about a fifteen-minute drive to the coast – which, let’s be honest, is nothing when you’re talking about Tenerife distances – but what I loved was having this quiet retreat to come back to after days spent battling the crowds at Playa de las Americas. The apartment itself has these little touches that matter: proper thick towels, a coffee maker that actually works (you’d be surprised how rare that is), and windows that block out sound surprisingly well. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional motorbike early in the morning, but it’s nothing like the constant buzz you get in the tourist zones.

The 8.2 rating makes total sense once you settle in for a few days. It’s not trying to be some fancy resort experience – the furnishings are comfortable rather than Instagram-worthy, and the shower has decent pressure but won’t blow you away. What it does really well is give you space to spread out and live normally, which becomes incredibly valuable if you’re staying more than just a weekend. The kitchen is actually functional for cooking real meals, not just reheating leftovers, and there’s this tiny balcony where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the town wake up. Parking was straightforward when I visited in March, though I imagine it gets trickier during peak season when every rental fills up. The check-in process was refreshingly simple – none of that complicated key-exchange drama you sometimes get with apartment rentals. Honestly, if you’re the type of traveler who wants to experience Tenerife beyond the resort bubble but still needs a comfortable base with modern amenities, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  Really nice area but quite an uphill walk. That's okay though because the house itself is very nice and it's very nice to sit at the front porch as well. Owner was very friendly

  Ich habe die Unterkunft wegen der Lage im sonnigen Süden, des guten Preises und des Aussehens gewählt. Ich wurde diesbezüglich nicht enttäuscht, es war sehr schön. Auch der Host ist sehr nett und entgegenkommend! 🙂
  
  What could be improved: In der Küche gab es kein Warmwasser und der Wassserhahn tropfte, wenn man ihn nicht stark öffnete. In der Dusche rinnt das Wasser nur sehr langsam ab. In der Früh hörten wir immer das Bellen des Hundes der Nachbarn, die ihn in ihrem Garten zurückließen.
